The parish of St. Matthew Rudnik in few words The parish St. Matthew is on of the four parishes founded 1993 in Mostar. The parish counts 8 000 believers. It comprehends northern part of the city of Mostar with suburbs Orlac and Raštani on the right bank of Neretva river. There are a large number of catholic (Croatian) refugees from North-Herzegovina and Central-Bosnia in the parish.

Ten years after the war there is hardly someone who believes in their
return any more. So they are thought to be “of our own”. Some of them
are subtenants, some have bought flats, and some have built houses in
Raštani, where grew up one new colony. The parish is full of youth and
life. Two priests have lot to do. The conditions are unfortunately very
bad. The parish has even thirteen years after its founding neither its
own church, nor vicarage nor pastoral space. Whole liturgical and
pastoral (and also housing) life is taking place in one former
storehouse of one failed pharmaceutical firm. It is no appropriate
place but under circumstances it is serving its purpose. It is extreme
cold during the winter and extreme hot during the summer time. The
problem will be bigger if the owner of the storehouse decides to sell
it because there is no other solution for the moment. We have
building-site and construction papers but we don’t have money to build.
